PROJECT: Supported Housing for People with Dementia

SUMMARY: Working in close partnership with the Alzheimers Society and senior Social Services staff, Triangle designed 6 flats for single people and 4 bungalows for couples, around a secure courtyard garden, with other shared support facilities. Main access to and from the building is controlled via a single, double-height reception area but all dwellings have free access to the courtyard garden. This was the first bespoke, stand-alone development of its kind in the country, with all previous examples being attached to larger institutional buildings and the design keynote was to support sufferers as effectively as possible, whilst simultaneously promoting extended independence. For the same reason, the location was selected in order to maintain close ties with the broader community.

SERVICES: Full architectural services from inception to planning consent for IVHA. All construction drawings for the contractor at post-contract stage.

Triangle carried out extensive pre-design research into Best Practice and carried out several Option Appraisals on alternative sites in order to select the most appropriate.
